The field of 3D graphics is obsessed with beauty. Images and animations are crafted to look gorgeous, then illuminated by optimistic golden light, and generally presented as awesome and inspirational places to be. Architects, directors and designers understandably want their creations presented in the best possible light and the entire industry (creative and technical) pursues techniques which get us all ever closer to a filtered but photorealistic reality.
Project: Dystopia is the antithesis to that pursuit. It's a little corner of the internet where it's okay to make 3D environments which show places to be horrible, ugly, foul and grim. Over the course of the next few months I'll invite and collect artwork from various artists who need to flex away from the pursuit of beauty and show us something truly pessimistic.
